Pisa International Diabetic Foot Courses
Management of the Diabetic Foot
October 4-7 , 2010, Pisa Italy
The Pisa International Diabetic Foot Courses are based on the knowledge and structure of treatment offered by the specialised diabetic foot clinic at the University Hospital of Pisa.
By combining lectures from different specialists and individual training in the clinic, course participants will gain insight in both the theory of the field and the practical methods used in the clinic. The program is a 4 day theoretical course and practical training.
By also focusing on the structure of treatment and guidelines for establishing a diabetic foot clinic, the courses reach out to clinicians as well as hospital department or clinic management.
As an overall objective objective of the courses, the organisers aim to support the implementation of the European consensus on treatment of the diabetic foot, based on the existing guidelines. The courses will be used as a basis for building up an international educational network within the area and for raising political awareness of the challenges related to treatment and prevention of the diabetic foot.
Course director: Prof. Alberto Piaggesi
Director of the Diabetic Foot Section of the Pisa University Hospital, University of Pisa
The course offers:

The EWMA University Conference Model
The EWMA University Conference Model (UCM) is a unique model that combines academic studies at a university of own choice with active participation in the annual EWMA Conference.
The EWMA UCM was piloted with success at the EWMA Conference in Glasgow in May 2007. Since, the EWMA UCM programme has been successfully run during the conferences in Lisbon (2008) and Helsinki (2009).
Participate in the EWMA UCM in Geneva 26-28 May 2010
Students participating in the EWMA UCM usually make very positive evaluations of their experience. Amongst others, they point to the opportunity for networking, the knowledge sharing across countries and the focus on evidence based teaching as important reasons for judging the UCM participation a success.
The opportunity of participating in the EWMA UCM is available to all teaching institutions with wound management teaching programmes for health professionals.
EWMA strongly encourages teaching institutions and students from other countries to benefit from the possibilities of international networking and access to lectures by many of the most experienced wound management experts in the world.
The EWMA University Conference Model:
Allows participating teaching institutions to deliver the main taught component of a wound course during the EWMA Conference;
Provides students with a unique opportunity to engage actively in the professional learning environment of the EWMA conference;
Gives industry partners an opportunity to create or enhance company educational profile.
Course structure
Students register at a participating university and receive pre-course materials prior to the Conference and may in some cases access pre-conference activities before the Conference.
A unique programme of activities based on the conference programme is devised by the academic staff from the participating universities. Time for informal networking with peers and wound healing experts is a central part of the programme.
Lecturers could opt to add post-conference activities after the conference has ended.
After the conference, students will continue to be supported by the participating universities until they submit an assignment at the end of the course.
